Being from the south, I always look forward to an opportunity to head home. I was so looking forward to seeing beautiful moss-filled Oak trees and walking barefoot down a dirt road.  There is so much to be said about the south, it’s simple beauty, slower pace of life (which I love), and let’s not forget good ole’ southern hospitality.

Even though it was good to be home I had a very busy weekend of shooting. The day before the wedding I took Liza out for a shoot in her wedding dress. She wanted to do a different look than the one on her wedding day.  It was so much fun! I have to say that out here in SoCal we don’t usually have to move the cows out of the way to get to our photo spot.

These two love birds have known each other since Jr High.  Richard had his eye on Liza ever since high school, but sadly they only remained friends. Once they graduated they went on with their lives. Liza went the University of Georgia to earn an Engineering degree and Richard took on the family business while pursuing his medical degree. It was not until 6 years later that these two came back together.  Liza was invited to Richards sisters wedding and the rest is history!  Do we say “soul mates” or do we thank the “keeper of the stars” to always finding a way to bring the right people together no matter how long it takes!

I just want to thank Liza and Richard for letting me photograph their wedding. They were so fun and easy going that it made the wedding day perfect and it was exactly fitting for Liza’s personality.  From the hand made decorations to the mason jars filled with sweet tea and southern pig pick-in bbq.  To top it off they went a different route….  instead of the tradition of lighting the unity candle or mixing the sand, they planted a tree to represent nurturing and growth. Which is exactly what a marriage needs. I say these two are off to a good start and will definitely be together forever.

To have my husband home the entire year of 2009 was a blessing that I’ll never take for granted again.  He was deployed with the Marines at Camp Fallujah, Iraq for the entire year of 2008.  Not having him here for the 31 weddings and dozens of engagement sessions in 2008 was tough.   Luckily, I have some really great photog friends who supported me throughout the year as second shooters, assistants, computer-fixers and kid-sitters.
2009 was a year of personal and professional growth for me.   I only shot about half as many weddings as the year prior so that I could focus on networking, refining my business strategy and marketing, and defining the balance I want between my career aspirations and my life as a wife and mother.  Its nice to be at a point where I can decline a wedding if it interferes with my commitments to my family (sports tournaments, school events and such).   This is what Stephen Covey refers to as ‘Deposits’ in the emotional bank account (7 Habits of Highly Effective People).  I photographed a lot more seniors and families than usual, and focused on learning from others.  I managed to attend several photography workshops, and embraced the social networking phenomenon just to see what all the hoopla is about :) .  I started this blog in April, and by summer, I was tweeting and facebookin.’
All my friends had to endure my learning the difference between FB groups and fan pages, and such, but I think I’ve got it down now.  Thanks for your patience :) Its interesting to me that I booked double the number of brides before I began “social networking” online.  Perhaps I’m sacrificing the time once spent networking in person for the simplicity of updating a post to a few hundred at once.   I can’t say that I’ve ever booked a bride through networking online.  My number one source of referrals come the old fashion way:  word of mouth from my brides and Mothers of the brides.  The most powerful marketing message in the world is a happy client!  I was blown away this year and last at how many of my bride’s mothers from so many different states called me to wish me a Merry Christmas, or just to see how I was doing.  Thanks so much, that meant a lot to me.    The biggest benefit I’ve found in using FB is the amazing ability to communicate directly with so many wonderful and awesome photographers, and it keeps me aware of events that I may want to attend.
I’d also like to thank all of the organizations who welcomed me as a member or vendor this year.  Thanks to Brook at Ceremony Magazine for inviting me to the Cuisine in Casablanc event at Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa.  I look forward to working with Ceremony more in 2010.  Thanks to Charlene Keys (Premier Bride / Access Temecula) and Annette Nielson (Events by Annette / Keyways Winery) for welcoming me to the Temecula Valley Wedding Professionals.  The TVWP socials and wine tour were a blast!  Thanks to Terre at the Marry Me Lounge in Temecula and Orange County for the gracious hospitality.  I’m proud to be one of the four photographers selected to be on display in the boutique.  Thanks to all of the Temecula wineries who’ve added me to your vendor list.  I appreciate all of the referrals!  Special thanks to Jamie Purinton at Wiens Winery for all of the event invites.  Looking forward to shooting the New Years Eve party for you guys.
The Smugmug User Groups have also been a great forum to network and socialize with hundreds of local photographers.  Thanks to Jasmine Star and Jeff Jochum for hosting the Orange County SMUG meetings and keeping them free! Likewise, I shot my first event with the SoCal ShootOut club, and that was a blast.
So what’s new for 2010?  I’m focusing more on quality than quantity.  I intend to be much more selective in the weddings I accept, and promise my family not to make them endure any unnecessary sacrifices.  That said, its shaping up to be a busy year!  I’ve already booked as many weddings for 2010 as I shot in all of 2009.  I jump right in with a wedding at Ponte Winery on Jan 2rd, and Pala Mesa Resort on Jan 9!  I’m looking forward to an upcoming workshop with Joe Barnet and plan to tap into the resourceful expertise of the ladies at Be Inspired.  You may notice that I’ve implemented new colors for my website and blog, and I have a ton of new marketing products to compliment!  Here’s to hoping for another great year!!!

I LOVE Christmas! I can’t think of a more perfect way to end and begin a year  than by getting gifts. Maybe this year I will get the swing I have been asking for the last 18 years! (hint hint) All the colorful lights that go up in the neighborhood, the smell of my tree that I pick out with my family, the beautifully wrapped gifts, the hot coco and Christmas music, the spirit that fills everyone’s hearts, it’s all to celebrate this wonderful day!  Sometimes in the chaos of trying to find that perfect gift we forget to stop and think about the true meaning of Christmas. The real reason we celebrate this wonderful holiday, For Christ! So I am asking everyone to take a few moments to reflect on what Christmas means to them.  To me, Christmas means being thankful for what is most dear to your heart. For me that is my family. I spend everyday trying to show that to them!

Kind of scary! I want to take a few minutes to talk about “CHANGES.” I love to mix things up all the time, whether its my hair or rearranging my house. I guess I get bored easily, or maybe its because as a military family, we’re acoustom to relocating every few years. That is a good thing in this business because there is always some new technology or product coming out. Like in the fashion world, you have to stay up with the latest styles, or you will get left behind. Some might disagree with this and think that you stick to what fits for you, but its amazing to go back and look at photographer’s portfolios who still show images from the 80s. That style and era of shooting looks so gawdy now. I hate my wedding pictures from 1991! I wish the photojournalistic style was out at that time.
I will admit you can lose your mind (and money) always wanting the new stuff, but I do embrace change!
For the last four years I have been pretty busy with no time to rethink or change it up a little. So this year I have had some down time (thanks to the economy) which has allowed to get very antsy and want to do something new. So I have started the process of looking into what I want to do differently. I know I will be upgrading some of my products but I also want to offer new types of photo shoots as well. I am also changing my style up a little with how I shoot and how I edit. I am not sure how other photographers will view this but for me it is important to always try different things. I want to stay up with the latest “fashions” of photography.

So my plan is to announce a new product line, new style, new shoots and new packages in January 2010. I will keep you posted through out the year of all my findings! Stay tuned…

These guys were so fun and full of life! You will notice the Olympic symbol on Nicole’s foot in some of the pics. She played softball in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic games. Being a former softball player myself , I thought that was SUPER COOL! I cant wait to shoot her wedding in October. Not only will she be a beautiful bride but she has ordered 15 CAKES! I will definitely be blogging pics of that.

So we spent last Saturday at Coronado Island walking around town taking shots of them. I was also able to get a couple of senior shots for my son. WOW! I still can not believe I have a senior in high school and my daughter is a freshman! I’m starting to feel just a little bit old! But always young at heart.







I am so proud! My kids decided to take after my profession. Check out some pictures of me and my hubby they took! :)





The next few pics were taken using my pocketwizards and a gold reflector. I really like how the lighting turned out. Really warm…

By the end of the day Dillon was delirious. He was laughing at Trystan, who is a candy feign, going crazy in the candy shop. :) She thought she was in heaven.

Linka and Mike’s Independence Day Wedding was one of the coolest weddings I’ve done, and that’s because Linka is one of the coolest and most creative Brides I’ve ever worked with. Linka should stand as an inspiration to future brides planning the detailed touches to make a wedding YOUR own blend of personality and style or for the DIY bride. Caroline (Linka) designed and hand crafted so many decorations and details for her wedding that I can’t help but blog about it. From the table assignment cards to the huge numbers and flower decorations on the table top, the colors not only matched her theme, but her personality as well. One of the coolest ideas was a gift bag for every kid that was in attendance. What an awesome chic to think about putting something like that together for the kids in the middle of planning everything else! Another cool feature that I’d not seen before was the Candy Bar, put on display by Gourmet Gourmet caterers, who did an awesome job by the way. The Candy Bar was a 14 foot table full of colorful sweets. Apparently, Linka is known for having a sweet tooth, and the guests lined up to indulge!
Further made it fit her personality and athletic background by wearing a pair of classy Nikes, symbolic of her love for sports, (and comfort :) , just as she’d done at all of her proms. Linka was also awesome at sticking with the game plan. When we bolted through the reception area she stayed focused on mission to get the pictures done, and let guests know she’d be with them shortly. She made my job easy!
The wedding took place at the Kellogg House, once owned by the inventor of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes. The mansion and land was donated to Cal Poly, Pamona nearly a hundred years ago, and the antiques in the home made gorgeous backdrop!

She and Cyril married July 3rd at Rock Creek Garden, a cozy private estate nestled in Temecula’s Wine Valley. One of my favorite DJ’s, Bryan from Pacific Entertainment rocked the Garden with the best dance music.
The grounds were decorated beautifully with special touches representing the Japanese ancestery of the Groom. Here’s a few detailed shots, complete with Oragami!

Okay… I see why Jenee fell in love with Cyril! Besides his handsome smile and charming personality, he is ROMANTIC!! Get this guys…. this is an idea I’ve been meaning to blog about forever. While Jenee was in her dressing room, Cyril sent her a gift. As she opened it, the lovely string of Pearls and matching earrings made her laugh and cry at the same time! It was so sweet!

Here are a couple of shots we grabbed before the ceremony. I think the pearls really complimented the gown.

I was also very happy with the new Flex TT1 and TT5 Pocket Wizards! I was even more excited to know that that Pocket Wizards recently added me as a FRIEND of POCKETWIZARD on the Inspirational Photographers page of their website! These three shots were taken with the flash off of the camera, remoted behind the bride / groom.

This one has to be my favorite!

Jenee was spinning on the dance floor when I caught these two shots. On the second one, the flash was clearly visible, but added a cool dynamic to the photo, IMHO!

Pretty and sweet, Emily Hester is already prepping for her year as a big bad senior, and I was thrilled that she asked me photograph these for her. Waycross Ga sits right in the middle of the Okeefenokee Swamp, and is a huge Rail Road hub of the south, so it was only fitting that we endure the thick humidity and brazen sun to shoot at the old Train Station. Thanks Emily, that was fun, and definatley has me thinking about getting back into shooting more Temecula and Murrieta Senior Portraits.

South Coast one of Temecula’s premier wedding locations, and deservedly so. Jen, our coordinator, was on the ball, and the catering section was prompt and helped us keep things on time. This was one of the most touching and emotional weddings I’ve ever photographed. Mark and Wendy’s love for one another was strongly evident throughout the day. I can’ think of a better job in the world than to be a part of such a special day for people like Mark and Wendy. Enjoy a few pics from the day.

I use to do these all the time a few years ago, but quit advertising this type of photography because I’m just way tooooo busy during the week with my kids sports, suzy homemaker responsibilities, and hours upon hours of post-wedding work. My brides likely have no idea how much time I spend going through their images, editing what needs to be edited, converting from raw to jpg, designing albums, print ordering and such, not to mention blogging, facebooking, tweeting, marketing and advertising, meetings, and…… Whew! that made me tired!
Anyway. I’d forgotten how much I enjoy doing these type of shoots. So much fun. Thanks, Janet, for giving me a call. Here’s a few teasers….. So cute!

While Scarlett and I were photographing our beautiful model, Ci Ci, Cris was testing out the HD video capabilities of my new Canon EOS 5d Mkii. I still love my two 5d’s, but the mk ii color quality is incredible! I’ll spare you the full review, but will say its worth every dime, even if it didn’t have the video capability. Cris is no videographer, but put together a decent little clip, I think. Let me know what you think! The quality of this video is GREATLY reduced in quality and color. A little bit better version can be found by following this hyperlink…

I had a blast this weekend spending a day up in Monterey shooting a bridal glam session with Scarlett Lillian of Jacksonville Fl. Scarlett was delightful and full of enthusiasm and passion for photography. In the evening, we headed up to Point Lobos where we met our beautiful model for a couple of hours of shooting. Well, I’ve had enough time now following the Temecula Bridal Faire to determine that it was indeed a success! I’ve booked three brides whom I met that day, and all three are beautiful! The turn-out was dismal, but it was lots of fun seeing all of the other vendors gathered together. I really enjoyed chatting with the other photographers. Here I am on the left with Randy of RK Greene Studios and Rhonda from Portraits by Rhonda. Loren was there too but was busy when my husband snapped the photo. Thanks to all for the hospitality!

I was proud of my booth, but I think I’ll spice it up a bit next time with some decor. Let me know if you have suggestions for the next one… Here I am working my table… work it, work it….
